Eilean Donan Castle

Eilean Donan Castle

Eilean Donan Castle sits on the island of Donan, and is named so after the the 6th century Irish Saint, Bishop Donan. He arrived in Scotland around 580 AD. The first fortified structure was not built on the island until the 13th century as a defensive measure, protecting the lands of Kintail against the Vikings who later settled in the North of Scotland. This is the original photograph and it is one that I have used to create a fine art print that can be seen over in Image Art.
